Pregnancy and diabetes

There are two types of diabetes that need by women who are, or are planning to get pregnant, be considered:


1. Diabetes that pre-exists of a pregnancy.


and


2. Diabetes who develops during her pregnancy, which is usually referred to as "gestational diabetes".


Diabetics-those with pre-existing diabetes or those who develop gestational diabetes-often deliver larger babies.This is a result of the additional sugar produced by the mother, passed through the umbilical cord into the blood stream of the baby where insulin then converted to fat.

As long as diabetes is well controlled, there is no reason why a woman with diabetes a uncomplicated pregnancy cannot. it is when the diabetes does not verify that problems and complications. Complications can lead to problems with the pregnancy, including miscarriage, and stillbirth, premature delivery, and can also cause the women develop high blood pressure.

Women in the 26-28 weeks of pregnancy are routinely monitored for blood glucose levels. If a woman gestational diabetes develops and it is not treated or controlled it can lead to difficulties and problems including, delayed maturity level, miscarriage and poor placenta function.


Women who are already overweight when she is pregnant, or had gestational diabetes during a previous pregnancy, have a greater chance of developing gestational diabetes.


Other potential risk causes come from race, nationality and cultural differences. Some of these causes can be related to economic disparities and the difference in diets.


The women found that at a higher risk are American Indians, Asian Americans, Afro-Americans, Pacific Islanders, and Hispanics.


If you are pregnant, your diet as an exercise, both important for your health and the health of your baby.


Drinking lots of water, with a diet high in fiber and low fats needed for a healthy diet. refined sugar should be cut if possible, otherwise, cut out as much as possible. Watch your fat intake as well. eat lots of vegetables and low fat protein. don't forget to take a prenatal vitamin.


If you are already practicing if you become pregnant, it is important that you remain active within the limits of what your body and physician allow. low impact exercise, yoga or water aerobics are choices for those women who are not on a regular exercise program.


Women with gestational diabetes develop also have a much greater chance of developing type 2 diabetes later in life.
